What is the difference between OFCu and ECu copper?
The difference is due to the manufacture of the respective cables, with OFCu (99.95% purity) being referred to as oxygen-free (non-oxygenated) copper and ECu (99.90% purity) as oxygen-containing copper.
OFCu copper is used for single conductors with diameters between 0.07 and 0.15 mm, and ECu copper is used for conductors with diameters between 0.20 and 0.30 mm.
FLRY cables are low-voltage cables used in automobiles. These cables are manufactured with thin PVC insulation. This thinner insulation results in a nominal line voltage of 60V (FLY has full PVC insulation and the nominal line voltage is 230V) and its current carrying capacity depends on the cross-sectional area of the cable.
Another characteristic is the operating temperature range. This ranges from -40 to 105°C. This small difference makes FLRY cables also applicable in the engine compartment for the wiring of components located far from the engine block or at the bottom of the engine block. Due to these special parameters, these cables are often selected for the low-voltage parts of the system during the vehicle design phase and thus become the primary cable.
